Set in a well known Gosforth Street, this handsome villa, with its prominent gables and ornate dormers, held undeniable curb appeal. However, like many homes of its era, the interior was a series of small, disconnected rooms that no longer suited modern living.
Recommended to HerringtonGate.Design by a local estate agent, the clients sought a solution that would enhance both functionality and architectural integrity.
Working closely with our design team, and following the development of detailed plans and CGI visualisations, we helped them to reimagine the ground floor layout.
Three separate rooms were seamlessly combined into one expansive open-plan living area, bringing light, space, and cohesion to the heart of the home. Additionally, a new opening into the adjoining lounge was introduced, featuring architectural sliding pocket doors framed with period-style architraves, carefully matched to the original detailing in the hallway.
The kitchen contained bespoke painted cabinetry, a large central island, and a traditional Aga range cooker. To add a sense of character and intrigue, we integrated architecturally designed panelling which cleverly concealed a discreet hidden door leading to a private terrace.
To maximise light and connection with the outdoors, we introduced a new window and conservation rooflights, allowing natural daylight to flood the vaulted ceiling above the Aga. The transformed kitchen and connecting lounge now offer views over the expansive rear garden.
